SHARK TALE AND OTHER STORIES

Alessandro Mancassola and Barbara Ceriani Basilico
Opening 13 december 2009
From 14 december 2009 to 9 january 2010

The Promenade Gallery is glad to present the solo exhibition of Alessandro Mancassola and Barbara Ceriani Basilico.
The artistic duet has been working together in Milan since 2005.
1 shark
6 icebreakers
and 7 turists
in 127 m2:

Shark Tale’s video projection (HD video, colour, mute, loop, 2009), around which all the exhibit is set, is a story
of a Grey nurse shark (Carcharias taurus) that repeats the same path over and over deep down the abyss.

It traces an imaginary endless circle while other fishes draw other different criss-crosses away from the shark’s.
Icebreakers fleet on the stocks (Pastels on paper, 45x45 cm, 2009) is a series of drawings about vessels that are especially build for sailing on icy polar water.
The sheet of paper then becomes the white thick frozen sea where the icebreakers fleet sails in an apparently quiet mood.
In Cover #2 (Print on paper, 200x150cm, 2009) 7 red-dressed turists happily floating among icebergs while traveling on a boat trip...

Alessandro Mancassola (Vicenza, 1979) and Barbara Ceriani Basilico (Varese, 1979) lives and works in Milan.
They have exhibited also at Fondazione Merz in Turin, Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa in Venice, Careof in Milan, Neon in Bologna and 26cc in Rome.
